Rehabilitation sport
What is rehabilitation sport
Rehabilitation sport (Reha-Sport) is a supplementary measure within the framework of medical rehabilitation and for the promotion of the participation of the patient in working life. Rehab sport is anchored in law and is financed by the rehabilitation providers for a limited period of time. The positive effects on health are undisputed: Everyday complaints are reduced and disease-related consequential damage can be counteracted. The risk of recurrence of the disease decreases significantly.
Prescription and financing of rehabilitation sports
Rehab sport is prescribed by the doctor the medically Budget remains unaffected. The scope of benefits varies with the severity of the impairment. As a rule, the medical prescription is for the completion of 50 exercise units of 45 minutes each in a maximum of 18 months. Rehab sport is primarily intended to provide “help for self-help”. Rehab sport is therefore not designed as a permanent service, but is intended to lead to the ability to carry out exercise training independently and on one’s own responsibility in the long term. For medical reasons, rehabilitation sports can also be prescribed for a longer period of time.
Before rehab sport can be started, participation must be confirmed by the responsible Rehabilitation provider, e.g. the health insurance company, must be approved. For this purpose, the application for cost coverage must be submitted to the health insurance company. This informs whether the assumption of costs is approved.

Rehabilitation sport is basically offered by non-profit associations. In the active center of the Thüringentherme this is the association “Bewegung pro Gesundheit e.V.”.
